why link with Seeds for Africa?
I have always known that the great British gardener has a real interest in and fascination with sharing their love of gardens and gardening. The National Garden Scheme shows us that so clearly when we can traipse around fabulous horticultural labours of love all summer - and we do in our thousands.
What I wanted to do was continue this tradition and as I would not raise much from opening my garden to the public - it being of very modest proportions - I looked around for a charitable connection that would be particularly appropriate for gardeners.
Whilst exploring the delights of the BBC Gardeners' World Live show in Birmingham this year I came across the Seeds for Africa stall. I chatted to the helpful volunteers and quickly felt that against the background of all this wonderful gardening consumerism which I was wallowing in, it was time to make a contribution to an organisation that sponsored horticultural projects of literally life-saving importance. They were selling the new One Tree cards and when I found out that for my one £5 purchase a fruit tree could be on its way to growing in a school yard, I thought it was the perfect way to make my donation.
In fact, I bought a card to congratulate my daughter on her graduation - what better way to mark the successful end of her education than by assisting the education of others. The card was blank inside so I could word the greeting to suit the individual situation. She was thrilled and I was fascinated to find out more about this very focused and practical charity.
Well I did and as a result you can make a donation or buy a card directly from this site. It is not automatic, it is your choice. For some it will not be the right organisation or the right time but if you would like to find out a little more about them then please click to About Seeds for Africa.
